Post Prompt 31/1/17: Are you an organised person? How do you organise your time?

I’m… not organised at all, actually, which is why I’m asking! I have no idea how to properly manage my time. I make timetables for things like revision but struggle so hard to follow them. My sister bought me this gorgeous, gorgeous diary (by this place: https://www.joules.com/Home-and-Garden/Stationery) and now I’m super motivated and want to keep track of my time. It is a January – December diary, and I know February starts tomorrow, but it’s fine. I did only get it through a lot of complaining, so I really hope I don’t waste her money and abandon it two days in.

    Mare xx

(On a side note, it’s kind of strange for me to go by paperclip, I don’t mind if you do call me it, it just feels weird. My name is Maryam but I go by Mare online and my friends call me Mare. So yeah. I’ll keep the username cause Nostalgia but yeah.)

I’m pretty organized. I have to be when my life is so chaotic, because if I didn’t have every hour planned out I would fail all my classes. At least, that’s what I have to tell myself in order to keep studying like a crazy person.

    • Agent SD 10:07 pm on January 31, 2017 Permalink | Reply

The best thing to do, I think, is to really prioritize the things you need to do! If you keep getting stuff done in the order they need to get done then everything gets done in a comfortable time. It seems pretty straightforward, but it’s actually really helpful to visualize a list of things you need to do in order of importance. Try not to get overwhelmed, just focus on the most important thing and go down the list.

    • Lily 12:44 pm on February 1, 2017 Permalink | Reply

No I’m not really organised but sometimes I get really motivated and organise everything at once
I was actually thinking of making a timetable to manage my time. I made one for my GCSE’s last year and it helped a bit.
Mare is so cute I love it. I wish my name was a bit longer so I had a cute nickname

Oh, okiedoke! Mare it is. :-,

I’m aight. When I was in high school I would keep a sheet clipped into the front of my binder and write down each assignment (or basically anything I had to do work-wise) and when it was due, and then cross it off when I finished. I find that with only three classes, though, I can just keep everything in my head.

I still end up procrastinating at *least* until a week before even for major projects though. .-.

As far as organizing stuff, it gets way easier when you move into a single-room apartment, or at least it did for me. I take time every week or so to tidy up my desk and remake my bed, and once a quarter to reorganize my drawers and closet, and that’s about all I need. :-,

    • deartomysoul 8:32 pm on March 16, 2017 Permalink | Reply

I like being organized. I would say I’m an “extremely organized person”. However, there are many days where I feel stressed or don’t have enough time to organize my thoughts and that is okay. If you skip a few days or weeks in your planner, don’t abandon it completely is my advice. Keep with it. You’ll get back into the swing of it. And even if you find out that you aren’t a planner person, find some other way to keep motivated! Make lists or something.

I’ve just been crying all week. I have no words. My whole college is grieving. Everyone is grieving. One horrendous person in this country is, well, to be expected. The fact that a little less than half of this nation (I HATE THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE) voted this thing in, this disgusting, juvenile, idiotic orange thing into office. I can’t comprehend it. I never really thought he had a chance. I am so deeply disappointed in this country.

also, Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature, which was something that struck me as odd because I wasn’t sure if songs counted as literature, but I guess they kind of do…? What do you think??

      Woo! Proud of you 😀

Doing well! Busy, but finally found a decent balance in my life. I think. I want to get a cat, and now I’m working from home (transcribing for the podcast I intern at woooooooo) so it seems like it might be a good time! I found a nine-year-old cat online I’m kind of obsessed with. Her name is Sadie, and she needs to be re-homed because her owner, who was an elderly lady, passed away. My only concern is the possibility of expensive unpredictable medical issues over the next few years because she’s an older kitty, but I’m looking into health insurance and stuff.

Kitty has been adopted by another family–there are a couple strays that hang out around our house. Apparently, there’s a flea infestation because of that. My roommate is gonna have someone come by soon to fumigate, so I’m waiting until there’s no longer a flea problem before bringing a kitty into my home

Speaking of tests: midterm in anthropology on Monday, quiz about this (WONDERFUL) book we read in history Tuesday. It’s a monograph called A Midwife’s Tale by Laurel Thatcher Ulrich. Fantastic, really interesting book. Finishing up The Twelfth Night in survey of English literature. Our teacher is also making us watch She’s the Man for it. And then next month I have to take this like, college writing test called the GPE to prove that I can write at a college level, and I’m annoyed because I thought I was past all the stupid standardized school testing thingamabobs

hello, my most favourite band of all time ever released their new album today, and it killed me dead. completely and utterly dead. wild world by bastille written by dan smith produced by dan smith and mark crew is an extremely excellent album, and i am dead

    • lem 2:56 pm on September 9, 2016 Permalink | Reply

i was gonna come post about this but obviously you beat me too it.

i love bastille so much. i’m so lucky they’ve had the impact on my life they have. as of right now, i still think that other people’s heartache and bad blood contain the best songs ever written and that even they themselves can’t top that, but my opinion may change as i get more used to the songs on wild world and begin to associate memories and emotions with the songs the way i do with earlier bastille stuff.

that said, i am really bummed about their gradual change in style over the years, because i feel like it is less unique than it used to be. dan smith’s voice is still the best in the universe though.

i read it yday too. I finished it in five hours 😛
i didn’t love it, that’s for sure. parts i really liked was scorpius and SCORBUS
idk it seemed a little bit cliche at times. I couldn’t relate the style of writing to the original books, so it felt inauthentic to me.
the whole *********’* ******** thing was SO STUPID. hated that
i agree w everyone who said it seemed like a fanfic. i don’t know why time travelling was ever introduced into it. but i did like the whole ripple effect and the alternate universes, that was fun.
plus the pushing of scorpius/rose was boring and fake, SCORBUS is the way to go.
oh also ive always hated hinny and romione so those scenes were annoying too.
altogether, i didn’t hate it. There’s a lot of parts I didn’t like but the scorpius/albus friendship was enough to save it from disaster. but it doesn’t feel connected to the original HP books at all.

i read it the day it came out. i had just had my wisdom teeth out so i was high on pain meds and i thought i hallucinated the whole thing until i went on the internet and found that it was real. scorbus was good. it was fun to read, but as a story it was such trash.

Britain voted to leave the European Union mostly to keep migrants and immigrants from poorer European countries out. This has long been the goal of a super right wing party called UKIP (the UK Independance Party) which is led by Nigel Farage, British Donald Trump. This has already really destroyed the world economy (my parents lost $30,000 in investments), and was generally a very bad plan and people only voted to Leave because you know, xenophobia and racism. David Cameron, the Prime Minister, and leader of the Conservative Party (more like normal American Republicans, like, Mitt Romney type policies, generally very focused on not letting change happen), had supported the Remain campaign and failed, and publicly resigned after it was announced that Britain would leave the EU. I think he’s staying in office until about October, but I don’t remember. Anyway, he wasn’t great at all, but in comparison to Farage, or Boris Johnson (Actually British Trump likeseriouslylookhimup), he was very tolerable- again, like Romney vs. Trump. Nigel Farage can’t be the Next Prime Minister because the difference between Prime Ministers and Presidents is that we elect our president and also individual congresspeople who may or may not be the same party as the president, but Prime Ministers aren’t elected, Members of Parliament are, and the leading party’s leader automatically becomes Prime Minister and UKIP is (thankfully) not the leading party (or even close). Boris Johnson, however, is part of the Conservative Party and, as I understand it, if he replaces David Cameron as the leader of the Conservative Party, he will become Prime Minister.

/Correct me if I’m wrong on anything, Lily. I actually have very little knowledge of how the British government works but I’ve always assumed that it’s like Canada/Russia/France/any other parliamentary system/

        • deartomysoul 3:13 pm on July 1, 2016 Permalink | Reply

Ok, so Nigel Farage is very bad and Boris Johnson is also very bad but David Cameron is tolerable and he’s the better choice out of all three even though they are all very right wing?

          • lem 6:59 pm on July 1, 2016 Permalink | Reply

Yeah I mean David Cameron’s hardly right wing from what I’ve seen at least, just right-centre like his party’s supposed to be. Nigel Farage is the most right wing person in the country, and Boris Johnson seems to have had an okay history as far as right-centre policies but says lots of nasty racist, homophobic, and xenophobic stuff.

He’s not trying to become prime minister though, apparently!!!!! So that’s good news.

he’s not an elected MP, plus he’s in UKIP, not Conservative
Nope, Johnson would be pretty awful too, but he’s stood down in the running for next conservative leader. So at this point, Boris can’t be PM either.

          • lem 12:52 pm on July 1, 2016 Permalink | Reply

I meant in the future future, not as the next leader of the conservative party. I must admit that my knowledge of British politics is pretty vague- my family watches BBC every night bc they have considered it the best news source since before they even moved to America so I hear about it a lot but there’s only so much you can understand of a political structure from the news. However, what I understand is that the Labour party has been totally destroyed by their lack of success with the Remain campaign and people are calling for Jeremy Corbyn’s resignation, and I had assumed that when David Cameron announced that someone else needed to lead a newly independant Britain, he meant Death to The Conservatives and as an American who was watching this in the wake of Donald Trump’s nomination for candidacy, I thought that that meant Time For The Rise Of UKIP As The Leading Party After The Next Election. Which obviously is probably not going to happen that quickly now that I think about it.

So I didn’t mean next prime minister, just, why can’t Cameron and the slightly more tolerable parts of the Conservative party stay in power and not let the more awful parts of their party (Johnson) or far worse parties (UKIP) take power.

          • lem 7:06 pm on July 1, 2016 Permalink | Reply
